About Equality Fighters
and why you should become one
The aim of our movement is to establish equal chances for all people regardless of their sexual identity. We strongly advocate a future of non-discrimination and wish to accompany as many legal cases as possible in order to create lasting impact concerning gender equality. We engage in legal activism in terms of strategic litigation. The particularly important fields of our legal activism include culture and musical studies, but we are opting for specializing in sports and other relevant areas as well. We try to constantly explore new paths on our journey to a world of non-discrimination and are not afraid to speak out for everyone.
We believe that every single human should be an advocate of equality, as long as they are concerned with the future of our society. We are open to discussions with those who are curious or even have a dissenting opinion, unless we are confronted with vulgar language or offensive behaviour.
The word “Fighters” does not stand for any militant or aggressive stance at all. On the contrary – we fight for basic human rights by means of thinking, creating, learning and discussing. We are compassionate with those in need and assertive towards those afraid of change.
Equal But Separate in Germany ?
Our current major project is called Knabenchor Girls, Knabenchor being the German term for a Boys` Choir School. As per exegesis of the word Knabe, it refers to a “good-looking, strong and proud boy”. This word used to be frequent many generations ago, so that it perfectly fits to the long-outdated practice of Boys` Choir Schools in Germany. But what exactly does that mean? Well, the roots of the Knabenchor concept reach back to mediaeval times where women had practically no rights – they were not permitted to sing in church or live as an independent member of society at all. Still, this concept is being publicly funded by the German State until this day. The boys receive top-notch musical education as well as career chances that reach far beyond those available to girls with equal talents or abilities. We regard this as unacceptable, which is why we engage in pro-bono litigation in favour of girls concerned with this discriminatory practice.
